Player Ratings
What a performance, what a result! Everybody contributed and it was a real team effort.

Adrian (8) - He made some great stops and his distribution was excellent. Flapped at one cross but apart from that, a faultless performance.

Tomkins (6) - Struggled in the first half but grew into the game. A CB playing RB is always a worry but made some vital blocks and was very strong.

Reid (7) - A few times in the first half he panicked but overall was a rock. A great partnership with Ogbonna and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Ogbonna (8) - I was really impressed, he was quick, strong and used the ball well in possession. Thought he was our best defender.

Cresswell (6) - A fairly quiet game from the ever dependable LB. Defended well but lost possession a few times.

Oxford (7) - What a debut!! I can't believe he is only 16. Did his screening job brilliantly and had the best pass completion rate of any other player (95%).

Kouyate (7) - Typical Kouyate performance. He worked so hard and is s real warrior in the middle of midfield. Great commitment for his goal.

Noble (8) - He was brilliant yesterday! What ever your opinion of him, he put in a near complete performance. He was assured on the ball, broke up play and was a vital player in getting the 3 points yesterday.

Payet (8) - CLASS! He's a proper footballer and I think he's going to be a real fans favourite. Great debut!

Zarate (6) - Scorer of the vital 2nd goal but he frustrates me; he thinks he's Messi at times and holds on to the ball. He worked his nuts off and against lesser opponents, he will have better games.

Sakho (7) - I love this guys honesty and work rate. He did not stop all game and looked really sharp. He had the beating of their two CB's nearly every time. That run in the 2nd half summed up Sakho... A real asset to the team.

Subs: Bringing on Nolan, Jarvis and Maiga really shows we are a few players short. I'm hoping the cheque book comes out again as we are 3/4 players shirt into having one hell of a squad!

Re: Player Ratings
Given my opinion of him pre-game, Ogbonna was probably my MOTM. Him, Payet and Oxford were absolutely top drawer.

spot on analysis

Some might disagree with a point or two in the ranking, but the comments were on the money. No personal dislikes of players making you score them lower, I like that.

Re: Player Ratings
If Zarate was a bit more intelligent in releasing the ball and a little less selfish at times I think we could have a very decent player on our hands, too many times he ran into defenders doubling up on him and lost the ball when he should have released it earlier. I found it in my heart to forgive him yesterday though.....

Can't disagree with any of that. More of the same against Leicester, who'll be up for it and Bournemouth now please.

Re: Player Ratings
I'd give Tomkins a 7 did well out of his natural habitat.

I hope Cresswell pushes on this season, you get the impression that he could still be much better, which I suppose is a compliment.

Re: Player Ratings
Pretty much agree with the markings but agree that Tomkins deserved a 7

Playing out of position & Arsenal knew it & tried hard to exploit it, he stuck to his task well I thought

I would only give Adrian a 7 as he really didn't have that much to do! a couple of fairly decent saves over 90 mins isn't worth an 8 in my book!

Payet looked strong as well as obviously skilful. I was surprised at how difficult Arsenal found it to knock him off the ball. He's got spirit!

Re: Player Ratings
I'd probably rate Noble a 7 and Payet a 7 but it's difficult to not justify everyone getting high marks from such a good team performance.

Noble wasn't great in the first half and often repeated the habit from last season of slowing the down our play and playing backwards. Second half he put himself in where it hurt, spread the ball out wide quickly and we were much more effective. Whatever Slaven said at half time, his game did change and his effort levels were huge.

Payet showed great balance and close control. An exciting player but quiet in spells and certainly in the first half didn't get on the ball enough. Really promising and having a player who can beat players at pace really opens up our play.

Re: Player Ratings
Reid should be a 2. He was playing right back and kept drifting into the middle

Tomkins also a 2. He was playing centre back but kept drifting right.

Oxford 1 - he looked lost out there the poor sod.

Noble - minus 4 for getting sent off the useless prick.

All midfielders should be no more that a 2 as they played far too narrow.

Lanzini should get a 9 though as he would have been excellent if he came on.

I see Fordy has become schizophrenic.

Re: Player Ratings
Pretty much spot on except Noble should have got a 6.....The game seemed to pass him by. He needs to do better to stay in this team.

Mr Polite 10:49 Mon Aug 10
Re: Player Ratings
So you agree Oxford should have got a 7?

Rodfarts 10:54 Mon Aug 10
Re: Player Ratings
If he was a veteran player he would not of got a 7 from me. He didn't do much of note but seeing as he is only 16 I think it's fair to give him a 7 as he made no major mistakes.

I don't like this business of playing him in CM tho.......He clearly is not a CM and on many occasions didn't want the ball not that you could blame him. Still obviously has a bright future..........at CB.

I think people need to calm down.........Arsenal were the worst I have seen them in years yesterday.

Rodfarts 10:55 Mon Aug 10
Re: Player Ratings
Kouyate should be an 8 easily best player on the pitch.

*bangs head on desk*

You really haven't got a clue Fordy. At times I've been Noble biggest critic but if you thought the game passed him by, then football isn't your sport.

As were you, and that's saying quite something!

Re: Player Ratings
Noble. .....good in possesion poor without it.

He's far from a complete midfielder we could do better.

Vodka_Jay 10:57 Mon Aug 10
Re: Player Ratings
Zarate a 7 for me thought he worked extremely hard and won the ball back in advanced positions quite a few times. He is also releasing the ball alot more now that he is playing with better players

Mr Polite 11:00 Mon Aug 10
Re: Player Ratings
So you'd rate a player you thought looked lost as a 7?

Do you have a number of different people sharing the same username as you're all over the place with your opinions.

Re: Player Ratings
FWIW I think if we had Valencia yesterday we would of beat Arsenal by 3 or 4 the back line was really flat footed and played a high line for some reason?
